  • The Tungnath Trek 

Watching the extraordinary historical piece, Tungnath temple gives you the feeling of sanctity and holiness. It is one of the Panch (five) Kedars of Lord Shiva’s temple in Garhwal Himalayas among Madmaheshwar, Rudranath, Kalpnath and Kedarnath. 

It is at the peak of 3,680km. In addition, it is the highest Lord Shiva’s temple in the world. There are many sacred tales related to this temple and it is said that the temple was built thousand years ago. 

The trek laid a concrete path from Chopta to Tungnath temple. But then a pot-holed path track exists from there on to Chandrashila. Trekkers complete their trek within 2-3 days if there isn’t snow and to Chnadrashila in about 3-5 hours from Chopta which makes it one of the easy treks in Uttarakhand. 

  • Baniyakund – Camp At The Meadows

Camping in Chopta is considered one of the best things to do. It is located at a far distance of 4km from Chopta bounded by villages and graceful views of Garhwal Himalayas. This place is the terminating point of Tungnath-Chandrashila trek. 

The place is also witnessed as a spot for birdwatching. Especially parakeets that are present in abundance at Baniyakund Meadows. 

  • Chandrashila Trek (Another Great Meander)

It is located at an altitude of 4000m above sea level. It is one of the best places to visit for sightseeing. According to mythological tales, Chandrashila is the place where Lord Ram meditated after defeating Ravana. 

Chopta has a lot of myths related to the Ramayana. Chandrashila literally means “Moon Rock”. You can also visit the temple which is dedicated to goddess Ganga upon Chadrashila.

  • Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary

The sanctuary is approximately 7km far from Chopta.  The place is also known for breeding musk deers amongst other animals. This sanctuary has a wide range of flora.

However, it is advised that if you are planning to go somewhere around December to February, then you should be well-equipped with a proper itinerary.
