Screen doors are very useful and functional. Besides their visuals, the security and comfort they provide are commendable!
Many homeowners choose to double-coat their beloved dwellings with safer entryways using screen doors. They serve as a first line of defense for your home, so you can live there more quietly. The see-through screen mesh enables you to view outdoors without leaving your snuggly seat indoors. It’s a great boon when you don’t feel like stepping out but you want to get a glimpse of the lovely view from your house.
Surely, homeowners who have screen doors installed to their houses are reaping the great advantages of these friendly doors, however, many of them fail to take care of their screen doors because of reckless acts. Yes, screen doors are durable, but of course, just like any other house part, their life still depends on how they are used.
If you have screen doors at home or if you are planning to have them built and installed soon, here is a list that will help you protect your screen doors from man-made damages! Keep reading to learn awesome stuff!
1 – DO NOT KICK THE DOOR!
When you are in a hurry or when you are upset, you tend to carelessly make your way out or into the house, so you just kick the lightweight screen door. While that may look ‘convenient’ and ‘forgivable’, it’s unfavorable to the screen door because it can distort the affected portions, can lead to deeply bent areas and can leave scratches or cracks behind.
Do not kick screen doors, especially if they are made of aluminum. They may not be as rigid as you think they are. Kicking them is a bad idea!
2 – GENTLY PULL THE LOCK TO THE SIDES.
The locks of screen doors are just a little segment, but without them, the security that these doors provide is useless.
Screen door locks are vital, so gently pull them to the sides when opening and closing to avoid making them loose and eventually broken. Don’t play around with them as well, so their durability will not be tainted. They are more fragile than they seem, so use these screen door locks with utmost care!
3 – KEEP POINTED ITEMS AWAY FROM THE SCREEN.
Rips and tears are among the ugliest damages that screen doors suffer from! When they have these issues, their functionality and efficiency decrease. Insects and pests can enter, and the small opening can grow big with more irresponsible man-made actions!
Keep pointed objects away from the screen’s surface. Intentionally or not, inserting sharp-edged items will immediately slash and punch holes into those well-working screens.
4 – AVOID LEANING FORCEFULLY ONTO THE SCREEN.
Sometimes, when you take a look outside from inside your home, you just come close to the screen door and lean on it for a clearer view. While this may make you feel cozy, it’s dangerous for your screen door because it can misshapen and weaken the screen’s structure.
Unfortunately, if the screen door is not very tough, you might end up breaking the whole screen frame in an instant if you lean with huge force on it. Avoid doing that. Instead just stand properly at the back of the screen door to prevent these mishaps.
5 – DO NOT BANG THE DOOR.
Screen doors close slowly, quietly and smoothly because of the pneumatic closer inside. You will wreck it if you keep on banging the screen door.
There are screws that will go loose or detached if you are not careful in closing and opening the door. The alignment may get deformed over time. Slamming the screen door may warp its frame, too, so don’t do that!
PROTECT SCREEN DOORS
Value these lightweight screen doors as much as you value your main doors! They are not just created to add decoration to houses. If they are, then new home builders and carpenters won’t care so much about tightly securing and installing them onto your house. Screen doors perform their exceptional duties, and they must be appreciated and maintained, so their long-lasting capacities will be proven indeed.
Protect screen doors by knowing what man-made actions destroy them in the first place. In that way, you can avoid inflicting these destructive breakages to those precious screen doors.
